With a decorative flower bed in front and cats lounging around inside, this quaint little video store is uniquely Portland. They specialize in hard-to-find cult videos of both the porn and non-porn varieties. The front of the store is stocked with cult videos and collectibles. Near the back is an 18-and-over section with rare and imported fetish videos. In a world where freedom of speech is becoming a thing of the past, Valentine Video offers a lot of porn that can't be legally sold in most places outside of Oregon. That alone makes this place worth checking out.

One thing we're especially impressed with is their trade-in system. Any DVD or tape can be brought back within 90 days and traded in for a new one for $3 (or $5 for the $39.95 movies). Each time a  movie is traded, the 90 days starts over, effectively creating a risk-free rental system without late fees or the need to create an account. No personal information is collected. On top of that, most of the movies only cost $10, and all of them are "buy 2 get one free."

Valentine Video is essentially Southeast Portland's film-oriented counterpart to downtown's Counter Media (which specializes in hard-to-find books and magazines).
