This place opens early, filling the void the Shanghai Steakery left when it closed. As a result it's absorbed some of the hardcore drunks that used to frequent the ol' Shanghai, and a bartender or two as well. Unlike the Shanghai, though, Casey's has a clean and somewhat classy vibe. It's eclectic. As Topaz, a bartender, told me, it's not filled with a bunch of gay crap, there's just a bunch of gay people that hang out here.
Casey's has struggled with its identity since it opened. The Eagle was in the basement for a while, but that didn't work out. It's definitely a gay bar, though, and they've hosted some crazy events here. I recall watching a large black woman take body shots off a male stripper at some point. That's one of the many fuzzy memories I've had here. I also got ticketed in front of this place for running into the street and screaming at a car during Santacon a couple years ago. During a different Santacon I got engaged here.
