Slaughters is the beating heart of downtown diversity. It encompasses all of the things I love about Portland's gay scene: Great music, drag queens, shirtless bartenders, stiff drinks, mixed crowds, an unrivaled dance floor, free condoms from MWC, and a urinal trough with motion sensor lights. I was a little sad when they stopped playing hardcore pornography on all the monitors, but the club has evolved into something bigger and better than I ever thought it would.

Rainbow Room Lounge, which used to be a chill room within CC Slaughters, is now a separate bar with its own entrance, although the two are still connected at the hip. Bolivia Carmichaels, who hosts an endless stream of events, traverses between the two clubs and gives a warm greeting to each individual bar patron at lightning speed. On weekends and during special events another bar is opened up behind the dance floor, so that a total of three bars are slinging drinks on the Slaughters campus, and believe me, this place gets packed. Catch me here on a weekend and you will undoubtedly see my pants and underwear drop at some point in the night for no apparent reason.
